A show I went to…on 90210 day.

Your Cannons/RUN RUN RUN & Mummiy Troll @ BOTH

How many bands in the singular form can you name? Perhaps, this brings to mind My Bloody Valentine, My Chemical Romance, My Morning Jacket. Then there are Your Cannons, in the possessive form. Perhaps you have heard of this local band made of 5 members coming to you from across the world. The band consists of four guitars, one drum set and some far out vocals. If you like the resurgence of shoegaze, experimental guitar power laced with intelligent drum percussion then these guys will definitely strike your fancy. With two EP’s under their belt, Dust Bowl and EP2, these guys are in bloom and making sound waves around the Bay Area and down the left coast. These guys opened for Run Run Run and Mummiy Troll, two Russian sensations, at Bottom of the Hill on Thursday, 9.02.10. This is relevant being the third song on their second EP, EP2, is named Siberia. Your Cannons did an excellent job setting the mood for the night. These guys play it cool and give you their music loud and raw and even promoted it by giving free EP’s. Lovely. Check out their rad site for a listen and for upcoming gigs. www.yourcannons.com

RUN RUN RUN (Rx3) is an energetic quintet from LA. Lead singer, Xander Smith, keeps the sounds poppy and vibrant. Taking us through songs from their album, Pico, he tells us they are on their World Tour, and fresh from Russia. This is the segue into the song that made them a Russian sensation with the lyrics, “she’s built like a Russian city”. Closing the set, Smith chose to cover a love song, “Fade Into You” by Mazzy Starr.

If you happened to be one of the few at Bottom of the Hill, then you were definitely entertained by the band from Russia that is, Mummiy Troll. Definitely the first band I’ve seen that sang in Russian. You get the impression he is trying to seduce the audience with his charm and storytelling. They may not be this way again for a while so do yourself a favor and check out their video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BF-PMSXPAJ8&feature=fvst

Tonight promises to be a Harvest Moon. *super* http://gizmodo.com/5645030/watch-the-super-harvest-moon-today

What would a Harvest Moon be without one of my favourites, Neil Young.
